Alexander Glazier

Alexander William Glazier, 76, entered eternal rest on August 31st, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Glazier (Napoli), his parents Joseph & Jeanette Glazier, his in-laws Fred & Mary Napoli & his sister-in-law, Aloma Napoli.

Beloved Father to Angela Micewski (Charles) & Julie Glazier, Loving Pop Pop to Alexis, Gianna, Olivia & Nicholas, Devoted brother to Joseph Glazier. Cherished brother-in-law to Anothony Napoli.  Adored uncle to Joey Glazier & Andrea Goodwin (Kevin) & dedicated dog daddy to Ella.

Alex or as many knew him by, Sandy was born  on April 12th, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was born & raised in the heart of Northeast Philly where he continued to reside until his passing.

He started high school at Father Judge and as he told the story, when your in jug too many times they kindly ask you to leave!
He moved on to George Washington high school where he graduated in 1965.
He went on to Penn State & received his associates degree in horticulture.

Sandy joined the United States Marine Corp in 1967 & served for 6yrs as PFC in the motor pool. He was a dedicated veteran until the very end.

He had many jobs in his life including working for the city of Philadelphia doing landscaping & planting flowers. When we were out & about you could be sure he pointed out any lawn he mowed, tree he planted or flower bed he created. Other jobs he had were Asplundh landscaping & delivering pizzas for Piasans until he settled at Acme Markets for 35 years.

Sandy met the love of his life, Catherine on the El platform at Bridge & Pratt & after being together only 6 months he got down on one knee & proposed. They were married on October 4th, 1969 & spent 53 wonderful years together.

In 1970 Sandy & Catherine welcomed to their surprise identical twin girls, Angela & Julie & the first thing he asked Catherine after they were born was, “WHAT did you do??” & her response was, “You helped!!”

As the years went by he loved his role as Pop Pop & couldn’t be more proud of all his grandchildren.

Sandy valued & cherished his time with his family. He loved throughout his life going to his parents house in Avalon, NJ where his favorite thing to do was fishing & crabbing.
Gardening was a way of life for him. Every spring & summer you could find him outside tending to his vegetables & planting flowers around the house. Catherine requested every year that he’d make a smaller veggie garden & every year he’d make it bigger & bigger!
He loved sharing his crops with family, friends & neighbors.

At Christmas time he had a loyal following for his homemade wreaths & grave blankets, a skill that was passed down from his mother. We were not aloud to schedule any appointments or events at that time because he was so dedicated to his craft.

Another favorite thing he enjoyed was going deer hunting every year. He’d make the trip to Erie, Pa with his brother & nephew. We’ll never forget the time he hung Bambi from our swing set & we never wanted to go near it again. He also loved collecting trains but never quite finished his train platform after all these years.

He loved all kinds of music especially oldies, Elvis Costello, Guns & Roses & Metallica.
On any given weekend you could find him watching The Three Stooges or The  Simpsons laughing his butt off even though he had seen them a hundred times over or you could find him in the middle of the floor demonstrating his latest wrestling moves for us kids.

Sandy was a perfectionist when it came to his hair even though he had the same haircut all his life. He loved to joke around & sing in the mirror all the time the song, “You’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you!!” He definitely thought he was irresistible!

His real passion was Notre Dame football & being a very proud Marine veteran. His wardrobe his whole life only consisted of these two things!

Sandy had many friends & acquaintances & valued each and every one of them. There wasn’t a place on this earth that he couldn’t go to without knowing someone.

He was a devout Catholic & dedicated himself to his parish, Maternity BVM, a church that he has belonged to since he was a baby.

Lastly, if you ever met or knew Sandy we hope you cherish all your memories of him & remember his jokes, stories & kind heart.
