Joseph Bianchimano

Joseph Bianchimano passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2023 at the age of 68.

“Uncle Joe” as he was affectionately called, was born in Roggiano Gravina, Calabria, Italy on January 7, 1955.  When he was three months old his parents emigrated with him to British Columbia, Canada where they lived for almost a year.  Not being accustomed to the harsh weather in BC, they relocated across Canada to Toronto, Canada for a slightly more moderate climate.  In Toronto, his parents were reunited with other family members from the old country and in the next ten years, Joe became a big brother to three more siblings, two boys and one girl.

Joe spent his teenage years in Toronto among countless friends, cousins and siblings.  He became known for being humorous and fun to be around.  He enjoyed playing music, guitar and ice hockey.  One of his cousins referred to him as the cool cousin with “the hair, the looks and the women!”

In 1972, Joe and his family relocated to Philadelphia, PA.  It was his father’s wish to live closer to his family in Philadelphia to be near his quadriplegic brother.  It took some time to adjust to life in the USA but Joe became successful as an adult in America.  He became co-owner of two hair salon businesses, one with his cousin, the other with his brother.  After selling and retiring from the hair business he became a realtor and invested in several properties.

His daughter, Silvanna Alyce, was born in in 1991 and she became his pride and joy.  He visited her regularly in Las Vegas where she lived with her mother, and would spend summers and holidays with him in Abington, PA.  They spent many summers at the beach during her visits, along with his sister and her family.

After retirement, he continued to manage his properties and became very interested in following politics.  He was passionate about his positions and would argue them fiercely.  He also enjoyed fishing, the beach, lion videos  and spending time with his family, especially when food was involved.  Joe loved to eat, especially Italian cuisine.   He developed a special bond with his nephew Daniel who is autistic.  He called him his “business partner” and frequently spent time discussing a myriad of topics including financial responsibilities and politics.  Daniel was always eager to listen and in his own way, would regurgitate his Uncle Joe discussions with his family.

In 2021, Silvanna married husband Owen, another proud moment for him and one month ago became a grandfather to grandson Luca.  Joe was elated to hold his grandson and couldn’t wait to be called Pop Pop.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  He is survived by his daughter Silvanna Struck, (nee Bianchimano) and son-in-law Owen Struck, Grandson Luca Charles Struck,  Parents Elio Bianchimano and Maria Bianchimano (nee Siciliano), Brother Vincent Bianchimano, Sister Silvana Alphonso (nee Bianchimano) and husband Mark Alphonso,  Brother Frank Bianchimano and wife Joy Bianchimano (nee Beckley), Nieces and nephews, Kimberly and Daniel Alphonso, Frankie Bianchimano, Jr, Joey Bianchimano, River Norwood, and great niece and nephew, Luna and Matthew Bianchimano.
