Ronald Kelly

Ronald W. Kelly passed away on July 27, 2023 at the age of 87.  He was the devoted husband to Jean Kelly (nee Lodise) for 63 years.  Proud father of Denise Barreras (Mike), Tim Kelly (Linda), Brett Kelly and Brian Kelly.  Dearest brother of Janice McElroy and the late Jane Vaders and Elaine Nicholl.  He is also survived by his 9 loving grandchildren.

Ron founded, owned and operated Kelly’s Seafood in the Bustleton Section of Northeast Philadelphia since 1958.  He started with a luncheonette with his father William T. Kelly before moving to their present location in 1964.  Over the years the name changes from Kelly’s Grille to Kelly’s Tavern to the present day Kelly’s Seafood.  Ron’s devotion to the family business was clear by his presence at the restaurant for his entire life.  After many renovations over the years, he expanded the building in 1983.  He led by example, always showing his children how important hard work and dedication were to being successful.  Ron proudly worked alongside his wife and 4 children through the many years.

Although we may not have seen him as often recently, Ron never officially retired.  He was also known for his generosity with local organizations, churches police and fire departments.

He was very active in the Bustleton Boys Club coaching football and baseball while his children were young.

Ron’s services were held privately but a donation can be made in his name to either the National Kidney Foundation or the Epilepsy Foundation.
