Joseph Magann

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Joseph F. Magann on May 29, 2023.  Joe spent his last few weeks at home surrounded by his family who never left his side.  No matter what he was going through he never missed an opportunity to remind his daughter Ashley how much he loved her and how beautiful she was.

Joe was a very positive person who never once felt sorry for himself and always felt that there was someone else who had it much worse. Even during his last days his positive outlook was not extinguished.  He put on a brave face constantly encouraging his family “All will be ok”.   Those were his famous words.

Joe was born and raised in New Jersey by Francis and Mary Ann Magann.  He was one of four children.  Joe loved to play sports as a kid and wrestling was one of his favorites.  Joe was a great cook who learned it all from his mom. He raved about his mom’s cooking, especially her meatballs which he recreated numerous times.  Every Thanksgiving Joe was known for his infamous string beans and mushrooms that were like no other.

Joe worked his entire life starting at a young age.  Friendly’s Ice Cream was his first job which he often spoke about.  He had a great work ethic, always making sure everyone was taken care of, be it his coworkers or his family, and was very well liked. He graduated from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration and was a CPA.   A majority of his work history included the healthcare industry which is where he met the love of his life, Stefanie, who he called his “Sunshine”.  They had an instant connection from the day they met. There was not a week that went by that Joe didn’t bring Stefanie a bouquet of flowers. She never had an empty vase at home since the day she met him.  Their relationship bloomed over the years leading to their most precious Ashley, Joe’s “Dumpling” as he called her, who he loved “the mostest ever”.  That was a line they shared every day.  She was the twinkle in his eye.   Disney, Lancaster, Hershey and the Jersey shore were some of their most memorable trips together.

Joe was a very shy and quiet guy. His mom always said he was “a man of few words”. Joe was a  lover of sports.  There wasn’t a game he missed or a stat he didn’t know. He followed all sports, but his favorite was football, and his all-time favorite team was the Philadelphia Eagles.  Joe was a movie buff who enjoyed evenings relaxing at home.  There was nothing more that he enjoyed than a night at home ordering takeout and watching a movie or reruns of Seinfeld.  Joe loved to listen to music and loved all genres of music from Pop and Country all the way to Frank Sinatra.   Burger King trips with Ashley as well as Sunday family pancake breakfasts that Ashley made for him were his favorites.

Joe loved to decorate the outside of his house at Halloween and Christmas time with hundreds of lights and decorations.  He felt such joy when people would stop by to look at his displays.  Joe called himself “Mr. Wonderful” after the character in the movie who expressed his love through his decorating with lights.  Joe found the greatest joy in giving gifts and wrapping them to perfection.  He absolutely loved to watch people open the gifts he bought.  Joe was one of the most generous souls.

Pumpkin, his “Little Boy”, as he called him came into his life about 4 years ago.  This little puppy wiggled his way deep into his heart and became his best companion and friend.  They were inseparable, especially this last year.  They often spent time together sitting by Joe’s beautiful pond, a pond he created with his own hands for his wife.  Joe’s pond is still filled with life and is a special place where Stefanie and Ashley can reflect and experience Joe.

Joe was predeceased by his father Francis Magann and his mother Mary Ann Magann.  He is survived by his wife Stefanie and his daughter Ashley.  Joe is also survived by his siblings Kevin (Alison) Magann, Lawrence (Beth) Magann, Sharon (David) Gilardi and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
