Colonel William J. Cover III USMCR (Ret.) was born in 1935 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Norwood Academy and La Salle College High School. He graduated from Villanova University in 1957 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Following The Basic School, he served as a rifle platoon commander and company commander for Company, E, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His deployments included six month onboard the USS Cambria in the Mediterranean Sea including a landing in Beirut, Lebanon in 1958.
He left active duty in 1960 and worked with his father at A. Raymond Raff Company in Philadelphia for over twenty years as a general building contractor. He also worked for Nason and Cullen and D’Lauro and Rodgers. He proudly served in the Marine Corps Reserves at Naval Air Station Willow Grove in VMF-511, MABS-43, and was commanding officer of MABS-49. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserves as a Colonel in 1995.
He married Penny Cover in 1959 and they had four children; Bill (Stacy), Chris (Kathy), Patti (Paul), and Mary (Dave). He also had eight grandchildren; Ashley (Josh), Shawn, Kevin, Jake, Paul (Ana), Courtney, Katie, and David as well as three great grandchildren; Juliette, Elijah and Penelope.
He is survived by his wife; Patricia.
He will be loved and missed by all. Semper Fidelis and Fair Winds and Following Seas, Dad.
