Dolores Hughes (Vanyur)

Dolores M. Hughes(nee Vanyur), cherished wife of William G. Hughes, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. Dolores and William shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, often expressing their deep affection for each other with the heartfelt phrase, "I love you more today than yesterday."

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Dolores devoted much of her life to her family, spreading love and joy through her nurturing and compassionate nature. She was a devoted mother to Kathleen (Joe) and Karen (Don) and a treasured grandmother to Laura, Corin, Christopher, and Kevin. As Great Grandmom (GG), she delighted in the company of Peyton and Shawny. Dolores is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends who will dearly miss her.

Dolores was known for her unwavering commitment to her family and her immense joy in caring for them, particularly her beloved husband Bill. She also took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her dedication extended beyond her family, as she was deeply committed to her friends and actively volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. Dolores will be remembered for her boundless love, generosity, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, August 2nd from 9 to 10am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue, Phila PA 19115.  Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10am.  Interment New Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the either the National Shrine of St. Rita or the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Maternity BVM Chapter, at the above church address.
