Arthur J. Mattia, a distinguished engineer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born in Abington, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1935.
He was a beloved husband to Sandra Mattia (Horanzy), a devoted father to his children Katherine Sullivan (William), Cynthia Gibbs (Sean), and Arthur Mattia, and a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: William and Christopher Sullivan; Caitlyn, Graham, and Cassandra Gibbs; AJ, Nicholas, and Gabriella Mattia; who brought him immense joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and two brothers. He is survived by his sister Rita Creedon.
Arthur's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to faith, family, innovation, education, and community service. Arthur began his academic career at North Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He attended Drexel University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959, followed by a Master's degree in the same field in 1964. His career began at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia where he applied his engineering expertise until its closure in 1979. Subsequently, Arthur joined Action Manufacturing, where he ascended through the ranks to eventually assume the roles of CEO and President, leading the company with vision and dedication.
Beyond his professional achievements, Arthur was deeply involved in community service as an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. His commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation was evident in his co-founding of the Mattia Family Foundation, which continues to honor and support many causes important to him.
Arthur J. Mattia will be remembered for his determination and tenacity. His passion for engineering and entrepreneurship, and his profound impact on the lives of those around him will live on. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to pursue their dreams with diligence and compassion.
Arthur's presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 9 to 10:15am at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am. Interment will take place at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA.
