Julia Ward

Dr. Julia Marie Ward of Huntingdon Valley, PA has made the transition to Our Lord on May 31, 2024. Survived by her beloveds Michael Tomaselli and Gabrielle Ward. Julia was born on May 14, 1958, in Philadelphia, PA to a close knit family in Mayfair. Julia was the daughter of Theodore (Roosevelt) and Antoinette (Notarianni) Ward. She was the sister to Josephine Juliano, Brian Ward, Annette Sasse, Mark Ward, Michelle MacArthur and the late Mary Jane Cummins. She was the grandmother to her two joys Ava & Gia. She is also survived by her 15 nieces and nephews as well as 27 great nieces and nephews! 

Dr. Julia Marie Ward graduated from St. Huberts Catholic High School for girls in 1976 and entered Frankford Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1979 with a diploma in nursing. Dr. Ward was employed at Frankford Hospital and gained experience as a medical-surgical and critical care nurse. Dr. Ward went on to receive a baccalaureate degree in nursing at LaSalle University in 1987 and continued at LaSalle University and graduated with a master’s degree in nursing administration in 1989. During that time, she gained experience as a care coordinator. Dr. Ward became employed as a clinical instructor at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1989 and during the years of 1995 to 2011, Dr. Julia Ward was a home care nurse for Jeanes/Temple Hospital. Dr. Ward returned to school and received her PhD in Nursing at Widener University in 2006. Dr. Ward completed a dissertation about the image of nursing. Dr. Ward transitioned from Methodist School of Nursing to Thomas Jefferson University in 2006 and continued her career as an assistant professor. Dr. Ward achieved full professor in 2020 through researching and publishing on interprofessional collaboration, empathy, and nursing transition from student into practice. Administratively she held positions as assistant dean, program director, and eventually assumed the chair position for the Jefferson College of Nursing Dixon Campus in Horsham, PA. She was immensely respected and will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and colleagues. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, June 7th from 9 to 10:15am at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.  Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am.
