John Chandler

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, John Chandler, age 94, of Holland, Pa., passed peacefully at home.  His wife of 19 years, Bernice, family and friends were with him throughout his last days.

In 2002, he was predeceased by his first wife, Julia (Carpino). They were married for 49 years, raised three daughters and welcomed seven grandchildren. Jack was known to be a caring and giving parent and grandparent.

Jack was born in Philadelphia on October 28, 1928 to the late Joseph, Sr. and Emma (Lauther).  He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Jr., Edward, Elizabeth and Margaret.

Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 through 1947.  Upon Honorable Discharge, he was employed with Edgemont Stone and Supply Co. and went on to attend West Chester Teachers’ College.

In 1961, he went into service again as a member of the Philadelphia Police Department, earning Commendations for job performance along the way. In1983 he retired with the rank of Lieutenant.

In addition to his wife, Bernice, Jack is survived by his stepchildren Leonard (Ina), James, Kathryn (David) and four beloved step-grandchildren.

Jack will forever be known as a kind and quiet man with a disarming sense of humor. Always up for an adventure, at age 93, he took a cross country road trip to Utah. And had a ball. He was known to play a mean game of horseshoes, conquered many a puzzle and never missed the opportunity to watch his beloved Phillies. He was the best of men to all those fortunate enough to know him.

Jack also shared the Chandler competitive trait and his love of golf with his beloved nephew, Karl, winning a tournament or two along the way. Golf travel took him to Scotland and the West Indies, as well as numerous Florida, Maine and West Coast vacations. Golf clubs at the ready!  Jack lived his life to the fullest.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus - Council 4215, Philadelphia FOP Lodge 5, and American Legion Post 366, Corp. John Loudenslager, and supported many charities.

Jack also came to enjoy political rallies supporting Republican candidates and volunteered in various elections, perfecting the art of stuffing envelopes!

He is missed by his two rescue dogs, Landon and Penny.

The family would like to acknowledge Chandler Hall home hospice, Newtown, PA, for their unwavering compassion and care during this time. Their commitment to all phases of care to patient and concern for family was a comfort beyond measure.
