James Ritzheimer

James D. Ritzheimer, age 95, passed away on October 1, 2023.  He is survived by the love of his life, Claire (Rasmus).  They celebrated 73 years of marriage in May.  He was the son of the late William Ritzheimer and Theresa Ritzheimer Mitchell and Predeceased by his brothers William, George and Harry. He served as a Battalion Chief with the Philadelphia Fire Department and was a former Marine.  He volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister visiting Nursing Homes well into his 90’s. He was a Coordinator for his Church’s Project Hope providing transportation to doctor appointments for parishioners. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Kathleen Caffarella (Frank), Claire Diringer (Michael), James (Carol), Joseph (Carole), Robert, George, Patricia Messer (Paul), Stephen (Susan) and Thomas. He was predeceased by his loving son, John (Corinne). He was the proud Grandfather of 17 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. He was famous for making up and arranging games at family parties. Could always be found sitting with his “List of Participants” sheets for the games of Clothespin in the Bottle, Race Horse, and Cube Roll with the winners getting to pick a stuffed animal out of a large bag. He was so proud of his family and always made sure that everyone knew how much he loved them.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday, October 7th, from 9 to 10am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue Phila PA 19115.  Funeral Mass will follow at 10am. 

Interment with honors will take place privately at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
