Joaquim Luis Vala was born on January 7, 1934 in Portugal. A few years after his military service was completed, he married his beloved and late wife of 51 years, Maria da Conceicao Luis. Together they had 7 children: Luis (Fernanda), Victor (Ana Isabel), Joe (Luisa), Adriano (Teresa), Regina (Alvaro), Isabel (Casimiro), and Ana Paula (Joe). They have 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren (soon to be 6). During his years in Portugal, in order to provide for his family, he worked in a ceramic factory and spent long hours farming. In 1974 he immigrated to the United States where he worked as a machine operator for a manufacturing company. When he retired, he continued one of his hobbies as a shoemaker. He also enjoyed growing his vegetable garden, harvesting, and sharing it with others. He loved playing cards and spending time together with his family. Even as his health began to decline, he always remained devoted to prayer, especially the rosary. Joaquim Luis passed away peacefully on Friday, June 11 at home surrounded by his loving family. He lived 87 wonderful and faithful years, leaving behind a strong legacy of love, unity and determination. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, June 14 from 6-8pm at Galzerano Funeral Home 9304 Old Bustleton Ave Philadelphia, PA 19115. There will be another brief viewing held on Tuesday, June 15 from 8:30-9:30am at Galzerano Funeral Home, followed by a funeral mass at 10am at Maternity BVM upper church 9220 Old Bustleton Ave, Philadelphia PA 19115. Interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.
