John Mehler Service Information

John P. Mehler, age 71, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023. He is the loving father of Michelle Lawrence, John Jr. (Ashley, fiancée), Jenna (Alex) Smith and Matthew, and the devoted Pop-Pop of Dean, Madeleine, Ryder, Jacob, Jordyn, Kyla and Kamdin.  John was born in Montreal, Canada and moved with his family to the United States in 1962 when he was 11 years old.  He graduated from the Maternity B.V.M. Elementary School and George Washington High School in Philadelphia.  At the age of 19, John became co-owner of New England Pizza and later on purchased the Temple House Restaurant.  John remained in restaurant management until deciding to attend the Lyons Institute to become a licensed HVAC technician.  John specialized in refrigeration and started his own business.  He also served in the Marine Reserves from 1969-1975, and resided in Cherry Hill, NJ for over 40 years.  John loved fishing and vacationing in Costa Rica.  Whether intentional or unintentional, John always made people laugh and was well-known for his quirky Christmas gifts.  

John is the son of the late John and Dorothy Mehler, and is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Dattilo and Teresa (Andrew) Stewart, and brothers, Mark (Claudia) and Eric (Susan).

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Maternity B.V.M. Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA  19115.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am. Interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass cards or donations to the American Cancer Society.
