Cesar Manguba

Cesar Manguba passed away peacefully and painlessly on January 20, 2023 at the age of 85.  He was the beloved husband of the late Clarita.  He was predeceased by his parents Prima and Severino, his sisters Helen and Amelita, and his brothers Florencio, Sergio and Arthur.  He is survived by his daughter Jane Lepore, his son-in-law Mark Lepore, their children Andrew, Alex, and Olivia, his sister Alicia, his sister-in-law Amelia and his nieces Cindy, Melissa, and Melissa’s husband Byron. The number of people important to him are too numerous to detail.

Cesar was born and raised in the Philippines, and earned his Bachelor’s degree from The University of the Philippines. After college he immigrated to the US after joining the US Navy. He enjoyed many years of military service with the Navy which included the opportunity to retire twice.  Even after his service ended, Cesar stayed closely connected to the military, keeping in frequent touch with his military colleagues, and making frequent visits to the military base.

Cesar dedicated a lot of his time to St. Augustine Church in Philadelphia.  He served there helping with the offerings, and was very involved with all the social and charitable  functions happening in the Social Hall.  Over the decades he rarely missed a Sunday.  He supported the Filipino American community for over 40 years through his various roles in many organizations as President, officer and member.

Cesar was best known for his joy in hosting parties and gatherings at his home.  Numerous times throughout the year his close friends and family members would join him to enjoy his delicious food, his adult beverages, and his friendship.  He always had a smile on his face, and never objected to hosting an event.

It is impossible to put into words how much Cesar will be missed on this earth.  We take comfort in knowing that he took the Express to Heaven, and is now reunited with his wife, his siblings, his parents, and the multitude of friends who predated his arrival.  We have no doubt that he is preparing his famous buffet, and will be ready when time comes for us all to be reunited.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, January 26th from 6 to 8pm at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 9304 Old Bustleton Avenue Phila PA 19115.  There will be a second visitation Friday, January 27th from 9 to 10am at St. Augustine Church, 243 N. Lawrence St. Phila PA 19106.  His Funeral Mass will follow at 10am.  Interment New Cathedral Cemetery.
