Robert McElroy

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Robert “Bob” McElroy. Bob passed away peacefully at home with his family on November 9th, 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of 64.

Bob was born on August 21st, 1958, to Betsy and Frank McElroy, and throughout his life was a loving brother to his sisters Eileen, Joan and Carol. Growing up in Mayfair, Bob loved to bowl and play softball, and he forged friendships that went on to last a lifetime. On March 15th, 1981, Bob met the love of his life, Maryann (Alexander) while down the shore celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Maryann would later say that it was love at first sight. They wed in 1984 and would go on to welcome two loving children, Timothy and Christine (Roedell). Bob’s family and friends were a great source of joy. His family grew to include his daughter-in-law, Heather (Hershock), and son-in-law, John Roedell. In 2018 he became a Pop-Pop to his beloved granddaughter, Jacqueline. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.

As a lifelong Philadelphia resident, Bob was a dedicated Phillies and Eagles fan, through good seasons and all of the not so good seasons. He always enjoyed his time on the golf course with his good friends and a few cold Coors Lights.

In 2019, Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and this spring with myelodysplastic syndrome. In the face of difficult odds, and with the support of his family, friends, and the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Bob repeatedly defied those odds. He took every opportunity to make the most of his time with travel, golfing, and spending time with his loved ones.

To say that Bob will be dearly missed is an understatement. Those who were lucky enough to know him and love him will carry him with us in our hearts forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday, November 12th from 9 to 10:30am at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA.  His Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
