Jeanne Honoski, age 96, died on August 5th,2022 in Philadelphia, PA. She was called home to our Lord and passed away peacefully in the company of a chaplain and her son. Jeanne was the daughter of naturalized citizens: the late Marcel and Parania. She was predeceased by her husband of 77 years Martin, two sisters, and a brother. She is survived by her daughter , a son ; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two nieces, and three nephews.
In the mid to late 1940's, Jeanne made history working as Santa's Helper for Gimbels in Philadelphia's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She collected letters from kids along the parade route intended for Santa Clause.
Jeanne lavished her attention on her two children, then her grandchildren . Every year when elementary school started she: accompanied them to school, photographed them, encouraged them to do their best. Finally Jeanne promised to hug each child by the first day's end. Furthermore, she achieved "in Loco Parentis" status for one nephew's education with the School District of Philadelphia. Every subsequent day he felt more like a son.
Besides raising two kids, being a homemaker and loving wife, Jeanne somehow found time to work. Two stand out positions Jeanne held are: Judge of elections, nearly two decades of service and Census taker for Penn State University.
In their retirement years, she and adoring husband Martin joined adventures offered by senior citizens groups of Maternity BVM Church, St. Martin of Tours Church, St. Albert the Great Church and the Legion of Golden Friends at the local VFW post.
In the last decade or so, Jeanne moved to Maryland to live with her son. She loved blue crab food and the neighbors visited her often. They loved Jeanne and she returned the emotions. Three years ago at age 94, she returned back to her Philadelphia residence. In the last few months of her life she moved down the same street to Chapel Manor Nursing Home.
