Joseph Reed

Joseph Charles Reed of Philadelphia PA died suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday night while saying his prayers that he prayed for others on a nightly basis at his home in Northeast Philly.

He passed away after 78 years of a life well lived.   He is survived by his Wife of 56 years, Doris M Reed, and his Children: Stephen Joseph Reed and Tracy Marie Reed, and his Grandchildren Anthony Joseph Reed and Trevor Liam Brown.  He is the elder son to the late Charles and Edna Reed and has left behind his brothers Jimmy, Gary, Tommy, and Johnny as well as all of the other relatives and friends that loved him.

Joseph or Joe as he was know was a kind and humble man.  He was a servant to God,  our communities, and our country.  Joe served his country as a mechanic in the Air Force during Vietnam.  He served his communities as a Philadelphia Police Officer for 33 years and an election poll worker in his later years.

Joe loved the Phillies more than anything and would be found listening or watching every game.  He rather be home than in the ballpark because he could get a better view.  As much as he loved the Phillies he was an avid sports fan of all Philadelphia sports and would watch and cheer and be frustrated with each and every game he could see.  Joe could be found gardening his tomatoes, learning about the civil war, or watching tv both good and bad shows especially westerns that he would tell you every detail about.

When you think about Joe and you think about the dash in his life it was filled with his faith first and foremost, his love for his wife and his children, and his ever lasting helpfulness to all around him.  He loved to talk with people especially his friends at the gym and would start up a conversation with anyone especially if it reminded him of his career that made him who he was.  If they were or was a cop Joe would speak to them forever. If you were his friend you were his friend for life.

Joe loved to travel and camp.  His goal was to set foot in all fifty states and he was very close to that goal.   What he enjoyed the most was spending time with his wife walking, going to church, and playing with the animals he never wanted.  Joe was a simple man with a true heart of gold and he will be missed more than words can ever express, but we take solace in knowing that he is where he wants to be with those who went before him in the loving embrace of God.
