Thomas F. Leahy, Sr

Loving husband of Ann (nee O’Connell) for 70 yrs. Thomas F. Leahy, Sr. made his final of many trips, going home to be with Jesus on Sep 8 after spending his last hrs with his family and priest. He had 95 yrs of a wonderful fulfilling life. Loving father of 5 children, Tom (Eileen McIntyre), Mike (Patricia Harmer), Jack (Christine Boysen), Nancy (Dan Paiano), Kathy (Tom Catagnus). 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 14 nephews and nieces. Born and raised in N. Phila. Moved to the Somerton section of NE for 49 yrs, then most recently resided at Ann’s Choice in Warminster. Tom started working at Beck Machine Co. in Phila after high school as a draftsman. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 and after completing basic training was recalled to Beck to work on a Manhattan Project contract. He was then drafted into the Army a second time and served in the Army during World War II stationed in Persia (now Iran). For his service he earned the EAMETO and American Campaign, Victory WW II, Good Conduct, Russian Commendation and Sharp Shooter medals. After returning from the war and with the help of the GI bill, he graduated from Drexel Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and spent 22 more yrs working for Beck. During that time the company moved to King of Prussia where he received several promotions, finally as Chief Engineer. He spent the next 21 yrs working for Paper Mfrs Co. in NE Phila as their Chief Engineer. After earning his professional engineer license he started his own business in NE Phila as a paper converting machinery consultant for another 25 yrs. Tom was a fantastic husband, dad, granddad, great granddad, uncle, and friend. A loving man whose love was returned by all who knew him, even those who just met him. He was generous with his time, skills, knowledge and money and was ready to help anyone in need at any time. Fun loving man with an infectious personality. Life of the party and a great example for all. President of the Apache sports organization in Hunting Park and actively involved in WW II veteran associations, Boy Scouts, St. Albert the Great church in Huntingdon Valley and their 55 club and organizing the annual Leahy Family Golf Outing which has been held for the last 17 yrs. Loved spending time in Wildwood with his whole family, playing cards, model railroading, attending Phillies games, watching the Eagles and Penn State football, travelling, visiting his family in Ireland while researching his Irish family tree, and playing the lottery. Most importantly, he was devoted to Christ and lived his life to that end up until his final moments. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday, 9 to 10:30am at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Rd. Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am. Interment St. John Neumann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family would prefer donations to St. Albert the Great Memorial Fund.
