Viola Marie Gress (McFadden)

Viola “Pinkie” Marie Gress (née McFadden), age 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was born on June 11, 1933 in Clifton Heights, PA to John and Viola McFadden and was the youngest of 5 children. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1951. She met her beloved Charlie on a blind date and their love story began. They were married on February 9, 1957 and soon after moved to Northeast Philadelphia where they raised 7 children. They and their large brood created many happy memories along the Jersey shore where they enjoyed long days on the beach and evenings on the boardwalk with extended family and friends. She gracefully met the demands of raising a large family including a special needs daughter who she worshiped. She somehow also found time to be a long term employee of the IRS and was a voracious reader of newspapers and books. She thoroughly found joy in preparing delicious meals for her kids and grandkids, always remembering everyone’s favorite! Viola lived in the same home until 2018. She is the adored mother of Charles (Barbara), Mark (Marguerite) David (Jackie), Mary Brady (Patrick), Christopher (Mary), Suzanne, and Gerald. She is the loving grandmother of 15 - Daniel (Stephanie), Mark (Kristine), Allison, Francis (Jonathan ), Lauren, Megan (Jim), Charles, Sarah (Hunter), Benjamin, Samuel, Molly, Christopher, Ava, Tommy and Timothy- each of whom brought her much joy and pride! She is also the loving great-grandmother of five - Mark, Audrey, Gavin, Matthew and Maisie. She will be fondly remembered by her many loving nieces and nephews and her dedicated sisters- and brothers-in-law. She is preceded in death by her beloved Charlie and her parents and siblings Jack, Tom, Gerry, and Eleanor and a daughter-in-law, Kathy. Her family will continue to honor her memory and legacy with large family gatherings filled with great food, much laughter and surrounded by her love. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 16th at 10am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 OLD Bustleton Avenue. Interment Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Donations in her name can be made to SPIN Inc. (10501 Drummond Rd, Philadelphia, PA; which is the organization that provides life care for her daughter.

To the Gress family Your mom, grandmom, and great grandmom - our Aunt Pink - was always gracious and pleasant. She was a wonderful lady who will not be forgotten but will be sorely missed. Deb and I offer our sincere condolences.

Her children all loved & respected her and she was respected by her neighbors & the community. We are very sorry for the loss of Mrs Gress.
