Gloria Garbarino (Giannini)

On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, Gloria Garbarino (Giannini), loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 85, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Gloria was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 3, 1935, to Virginio and Carmela Giannini. She grew up in South Philadelphia and graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School in 1953. On May 11, 1957, she married her loving husband, Leonard Garbarino of over 63 years. Together, they raised two children, Michele and Lisa. When their daughter Michele became sick at a young age, Gloria devoted her life as a mother to taking care of her. Although their daughter never had the ability to say “I love you” back to her, Gloria told everyone how blessed she was to take care of one of God’s angels - a true example of the person Gloria was — strong, loving, selfless, and full of faith. Even in her battle with cancer, she never uttered a single complaint. Her strength and faith in God, allowed for her to pass peacefully after saying “I love you” to each of her grandchildren, her daughter, son-in-law, and husband. Gloria loved watching Game Shows, shopping with her daughter and granddaughters, going out to lunch with her family and friends, talking to her friends on the phone, attending “Seniors” at her beloved parish Maternity BVM in Northeast Philadelphia, traveling the world with her husband, and spending time with her family. Gloria was an active member in each of her family members’ lives, calling them daily to ask about their day and attending every event to support them, including her granddaughter’s wedding this past August. Gloria was preceeded in death by her mother, Carmela, her father, Virginio, and her beloved daughter, Michele. She is survived by her husband, Leonard, her daughter Lisa (Joe), and her grandchildren, Ashley (Craig), Brittany (Joe), and Emily, as well brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family can find peace knowing that Gloria is no longer suffering and is reunited with her daughter, Michele, in heaven. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 10:00am-11:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at Saint Robert Bellarmine Church (856 Euclid Ave. Warrington, PA 18976). Internment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gloria’s memory to “Food for the Poor” - a charity close to Gloria’s heart.
